WoW Memories in Screenshots: 2008, part 1

Wow, so I started this post originally in May aaannnddd kinda just forgot about it and got involved in other things, so without further nonsense, here we go!

January 1, 2008  -  The New Years tradition continues!!

January 2, 2008  -  In WoW, even some bosses get in the holiday spirit!

January 4, 2008  -  I still have Preserved Holly stockpiled.  Why? Why not.

January 7, 2008  -  At this point Kara Group 2 had the first few bosses on "farm".  Maybe the entire raid?  Akumabarai would often try to position Attumen so that his corpse looked kinda silly.  Good times.

January 15, 2008  -  Ding 70 on my Hunter!  Third 70.

January 15, 2008  -  First thing to do upon hitting level 70?  Head down to Shadowmoon Valley, grab your flying mount and training! At first tried to pick a different mount for each toon.

January 15, 2008  -  Most trash pulls used to be serious business that needed to be well coordinated or the group might wipe.  I believe for this one we had at least one mage polymorph, a hunter trap, 3 tanks...

January 23, 2008  -  Forged Alliance defeats The Lurker Below.  Our first guild kill in Serpentshrine Cavern.  We didn't mess around at first, but once we had this boss on farm, certain Shamans would apply Water Walking to people during his Spout phase, causing them to get blasted far away.  One night when I was tanking, Hanh quietly let me chose who'd get Water Walking.  Ah, shenanigans  :)

January 23, 2008  -  The original Ancient Frostsaber mount.  I've only seen them once or twice and not since for many years.  When the game was originally released in 2004, these were the level 60 epic ground mounts Night Elves could buy.   Due to complaints about their appearance, Blizzard replaced them in Patch 1.4 (May 5, 2005) but let people keep the old mount if they wanted.  Since epic mounts costed around 600 gold, which was a huge sum so soon after release, only a handful of players got the epic mounts before they were changed.  Thusly, they are extremely rare.  I've seen the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal more times than this mount.

January 27, 2008  -  I never thought my Priest's career would end up this way.  Face down in a pool.  What a way to go.

January 29, 2008  -  I was taking WoW selfies before they were cool.

January 30, 2008  -  Ah, a glimpse of my Frost Resistance armor set specially built by Forged Alliance for fighting Hydross the Unstable.  Chuunks had the Nature resistance set.  Handsomo and Akumabarai, both druids, had a combination of frost and nature resistance sets.  We had to have 4 tanks for this fight.  I still have a few pieces of this set stored in my bank.

January 30, 2008  -  Once in a while the server would lag out badly and we'd all get disconnected.  Sometimes this took a while to happen and we'd be able to run around.  We'd be unable to do anything, but got to take a few fun pictures.
February 13, 2008  -  Used to have to go chat with this guy as a hunter for some epic loots.  He wasn't cooperative though, so you'd need 39 other friends to have a sit down and talk it over with him.  I never had the opportunity.
February 13, 2008  -  You maniacs, you blew it up!  Damn you! Damn you all to hell!!   *cries*   The old Night Elf ruins were pretty cool.  It encouraged me to go read some of the lore and learn more.
February 13, 2008  -  At some point I was bored and ran a solo Scarlet Monastery: Armory.  Got super lucky and Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade dropped.   Oh and look at my cool red Wind Serpent.
February 14, 2008  -  Before they revamped the Love is in the Air event, it had a pretty simple quest line that ultimately sent you up behind Ravenholdt Manor in Hillsbrad Foothills.  This creepy undead man would complete your quest and give you a dress or pantsuit.
February 19, 2008  -  Netherspite tanking fun.  I think Miluda's comment makes this screenshot.  Not sure if he was talking about my boxed in situation there, but it was pretty appropriate.
February 20, 2008  -  Oh, Leotheras the Blind.. you and your shenanigans.
February 20, 2008  -  When nights were dark.  Looks cool.
February 27, 2008  -  Leotheras the Blind defeated!
March 4, 2008  -  Lok'tar!!  Another toon (#5 at this point I think) and my first Horde through the Dark Portal.
March 6, 2008  -  Desecrating the Tomb of Uther Lightbringer. A fine Horde quest!
March 6, 2008  -  M'uru, the Naaru being  held captive and tortured in Quel'thalas.  After Patch 2.4 he's moved to Sunwell Plateau and becomes a boss.
March 7, 2008  -  Gnomish Technology!  One of the fun teleporter malfunctions that can occur when using the Engineering teleporter to Toshley's Station in Blades Edge Mountains.  Changing stances let me cycle through a few races.
March 8, 2008  -  Dressing up like the bird people!!!
March 9, 2008  -  End of the old Paladin epic mount questline.
March 9, 2008  -  Love those Dune references  :)
March 11, 2008  -  I loved this questline so much.  Nathanos is such a jerk  :)
March 12, 2008  -  Hydross defeated!  Now I can finally take off that crazy resist gear.

March 25, 2008  -  Patch 2.4  -  "Fury of the Sunwell" was released.

April 2, 2008  -  Morrowgrim Tidewalker bites the dust!
April 16, 2008  -  Possibly my favorite way to pull a raid boss. Fishing it up!
April 22, 2008  -  Tanking Al'ar was kinda fun in retrospect.  And Benvolo's macros....
May 1, 2008  -  So much going on in this fight.  We tried it a lot, but didn't kill her for a long time.
May 4, 2008  -  My First Horde to 70 and flying!!
May 4, 2008  -  You'd think some decently geared 70's, or really any 70's could take down a level 60 world boss.  Yet we still walked away with repair bills and sad faces.   So much poison.
May 7, 2008  -  It's a wonder Rage Winterchill didn't trip over all those corpses.
May 7, 2008  -  Thrall, before he was famous.
May 15, 2008  -  Fargol wearing his fire resistance set specially crafted for warlock tanking just this particular fight (Leotheras the Blind).
May 16, 2008  -  Waiting to go into Magister's Terrace.  Ignore the skeletons.
May 17, 2008  -  Isle of Quel'danas was still pretty newish at this point, being roughly 2 months after Patch 2.4 release.  So the place was pretty packed.
May 19, 2008  -  Barf-o-rama!!!!!
May 22, 2008  -  Leveling my Druid in the Wetlands.  Beautiful zone.
June 4, 2008  -  On "ranged DPS hill" in Battle for Mount Hyjal. That threat meter is starting to look scary.... time to pop soul shatter  :)
June 4, 2008  -  Tethyr, a new quest boss added in Dustwallow Marsh in Patch 2.3  Re-used the same model as The Lurker Below and appears a the end of a decent quest line.
June 6, 2008  -  High Warlord Naj'entus.  On Forged Alliance's first night in there, our regular main tank, Chuunks, was on vacation or something.  So it was me who made the opening pull. And promptly got one-shot because I didn't have Shield Block up on the pull and got a crushing blow immediately.  Remember when Warriors needed to keep Shield Block up always or suffer crushing blows?  Good times!
June 11, 2008  -  Supremus.  I thought he'd be taller.
June 20, 2008  -  Forged Alliance defeats Kaz'rogal!
June 24, 2008  -  The Midsummer Fire Festival originally consisted of fires in the capital cities and then 4 bonfires on each of the two continents.  Patch 2.4 vastly revamped the holiday and added a special boss in the Slave Pens and put Bonfires in almost every zone in the game.   A huge improvement.
June 28, 2008  -  Mage Tier 6 armor.
July 9, 2008  -  Westlol of the guild Westlol N eFriends.  This dude and his guild became infamous for roaming around the Isle of Quel'danas ganking people.  And quickly leaving town when Alliance groups rallied against them.
July 11, 2008  - Teron Gorefiend.  Turns out he's not very appreciative for you releasing him in that Shadowmoon Valley questline.  There was a flash mini-game a few raid guide websites had to help you learn what to do when he picked you to die.  You were transformed into a ghost and had to DPS certain mobs down before they overwhelmed the raid.  For like 60 seconds, then you were dead-dead.
July 17, 2008  -  The final Burning Crusade patch, 2.4.3, was just released and added some construction work in an area of Stormwind between The Park and the Cathedral.  In the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion, this became the entrance to Stormwind Harbor.
July 17, 2008  -  Facing down Azgalor!   Is that a shiny new Shadow Resistance cloak?  Absolutely!  Remember resist gear?
July 19, 2008  -  The Mirage Raceway in the Thousand Needles. Before it was ruined and flooded.
July 21, 2008  -  Dancing Troll village in Darkshore.  There used to be various wall hacks, or jump tricks from Teldrassil to land up here.  Now you can just fly here.
July 21, 2008  -  The Isle of Dread.  The Southern of two islands in Feralas.  All it had on it was a bunch of Naga with cave system that tied in to a questline and then a bunch of level 60 elite mobs that had drops for some rare cooking quest.  The Cataclysm sunk this island and now you can't even fly above it without entering the fatigue zone.
July 25, 2008  -  Forged Alliance defeats Teron Gorefiend!  Ignore the skeletons.

Now we're at the end of July 2008.  The last patch for The Burning Crusade, Patch 2.4.3 is live and the public beta test for Wrath of the Lich King began a few weeks prior on July 17th.  Courtesy of a giveaway contest operated by WoWinterface.com for Addon Authors, I got in to the Beta after a few weeks.

At the end of March 2008 I broke down and finally ordered the parts for a new computer.  My current machine was an AMD Athlon 1700 built 6 years prior.  It ran WoW adequately most of the time, but in most raids I was running 2-5 fps.

The new machine was an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 2 whole gigabytes of memory and a GeForce 8800 video card.  Now I could run WoW in max settings.  I assembled the machine on the day of a raid and got it setup a few hours before.  I was installing and patching WoW on it while raiding on my old machine. During an AFK break I switched over to the new machine and finished the raid on it.
